Community Youth Empowerment Project

Community Youth Empowerment Project

The Community Youth Empowerment Project is a long-standing initiative of The Imam Hussein Charity that has been running successfully for a number of years. Established to support and guide young people during their formative years, this project continues to serve as a trusted and structured space for youth development across Harrow and Brent.

Designed for young people aged 12–18, the project focuses on empowering youth, strengthening their confidence, and bringing them together as a united and positive community. Over the years, we have built a safe and welcoming environment where young people can form lasting friendships, develop leadership skills, and grow into responsible and proactive members of society.

Our mission is to invest in the next generation — equipping them with the tools, mindset and support network they need to succeed in education, career and life.

Activities & Personal Development

Through regular sessions held twice a month in partnership with Markaz El Eltathgheef El Eslami – The Centre for Islamic Enlightenment, we deliver a balanced programme of educational, recreational and developmental activities.

Young people take part in a range of engaging activities, including:

  • Table tennis

  • Pool

  • Board games

  • Video games

  • Team-building exercises

  • Self-defence training

  • Basketball

  • Football

Our sessions are designed not only to keep youth active and engaged, but to build confidence, discipline, communication skills and teamwork. By providing a structured and supportive environment, we ensure that participants are guided towards positive choices and constructive pathways.

This long-running project has played a vital role in bringing together young people from across Harrow and Brent, strengthening community ties and encouraging mutual respect and collaboration.

Career Development & Future Pathways

A key part of the Community Youth Empowerment Project is our weekly career development programme. We understand that ages 12–18 are critical years in shaping a young person’s future, and we are committed to supporting them through this journey.

Once a week, we invite experienced professionals from a range of industries to engage directly with our youth. These sessions provide:

  • Career guidance and mentoring

  • Insight into different professions and industries

  • Support with decision-making and goal setting

  • Advice on education pathways and skill development

  • Opportunities for questions, networking and inspiration

By connecting young people with real professionals and role models, we help them explore their interests, discover their strengths and make informed decisions about their futures.

Through empowerment, opportunity and community support, the Community Youth Empowerment Project continues to grow — strengthening the youth of Harrow and Brent and preparing them to become confident, capable and successful individuals.
